Semerkand English Magazine October issue is available with the feature article titled "What Is Islamic Life and How Is It Lived?”
Adapted from the fiqh book titled "Büyük İslam İlmihali” by the 20th century Turkish scholar Ömer Nasuhi Bilmen, the feature article reminds us that in order to live an Islamic life as intended, we have to be aware of the duties being a Muslim entails and embody the Muslim lifestyle by complementing our faith with practice and moral excellence. It propounds that it is the natural duty of every Muslim to observe the rules and limits of servitude and uphold the principles of Islam before continuing to detail what some of these fundamental principles and rules are. The article categorizes the duties of a Muslim as owed to Allah, oneself, one’s family and the wider society. It concludes with the argument that these values are the measure of a good believer, adding that one needs to live their life in accordance with these principal elements of the Islamic moral code to differentiate between noble and misguided paths in life.
Our lead author Muhammed Mübarek Elhüseyni highlights the dichotomy between religiosity and injustice in the lead article titled, "Religiosity and Injustice Cannot Coexist.” He emphasizes the inseperability of faith from justice and righteousness and compounds this with the fact that a believer’s pledge to obey Allah is synonymous with upholding justice and righteousness both in one’s personal duties towards Allah and in those towards other people and living beings. He states that for Muslims to retain the quality of trustworthiness, which Islam designates as a vital part of their identity, every believer must uphold justice and benevolence, diligently avoiding actions that lead to tearing the veil of trust between themselves and other people. He provides further supporting argument for the significance of maintaining justice in the form of hadiths and examples from the lives of Noble Companions.
